Malania oleifera: an important resource for medium-chain Fatty acids

Stemona tuberosa (Stemonaceae) is a typical sapromyophilous and vespicochorous plant. It has evolved substantially large elaiosome as huge rewards offered to hornets to disperse seeds. Chemical composition of elaiosomes and their corresponding seeds of S. tuberosa showed substantial difference in the pattern of nutrients, especially in fatty acid species. Its seeds contain rich medium-chain fatty acids which have emerged as a potential option due to key molecular features and versatile functions.
